Frog in Costa Rica.  I would appreciate ID help for this species...I have no idea what he is.  

I should be in Costa Rica right now.  Thanks Covid.  I missed a planned 6 week trip there in 2020 and now a month long trip...I miss travelling.  I miss the photo opportunities, the adventures but mostly I miss my friends there.  I love Canada and feel lucky to live here but Costa Rica also feels like home to me.  

I can't complain because I've had a wonderful summer and fall with the bears.  Usually they disappear early in September but this year they are still around!  So I'm grateful for the extended bear season and trying to be patient until it's possible to travel again.

Baker

This big guy was a surprise yesterday and caused some confusion. He showed up and is not one of the regulars. Today I've searched through all my archives to see if I'd photographed him at any point...perhaps when he was a cub. No luck. He's not there. We've had a total of 12 bears this season, he is number thirteen so I've named him Baker. (As in a Baker's Dozen)

He had dirt all over his nose when he arrived so he's been busy preparing a den and he was really well behaved when he was with us. He was chased away from the field by the girls a few times so he moved off to a more secluded spot and sat and watched me and rested on the rocks.

Wild Black Bear Sow in Ontario.

This girl is special. She usually looks a bit dopey and rough but when she gets this sweet and soft expression on her face then I know (even if I don't hear him) that my friend who owns the property has come out of his house and is walking up the driveway. Instantly her face changes, I've never seen anything like it. He's known her since she was a brand new cub and even though I've been photographing her for 8 years now, he has a much longer history with her. One day I hope she looks at me like this!

Tough Girl

I had a wonderful day with the bears yesterday. We had one of the females with her three cubs, one male who was born in 2016 and this female who has finally put on some weight and is looking great. She has a nasty scar on the inside of one of her hind legs which I was worried about over the summer when it was still a fresh injury but it seems to have healed well and shouldn't cause her any problems in the future.
