Raindance
Burrowing Owl
Cape Coral, Florida
In early May there hadn't been rain for weeks in Cape Coral and the temperatures were unseasonably hot. So one afternoon the sprinkler was turned on to give the grass a much needed soak.
Usually the owls would remain in the burrows during this hot part of the day or hide in the shade by the house.
Instead they all came out and acted like a bunch of lunatics. They looked very disappointed when it was turned off :-)
The Titusville Terror
Juvenile Red-Shouldered Hawk
Titusville, Florida
One of the first series of images I looked for when I got home with the retrieved files was of this hawk. He allowed me to get close and kept bringing his prey back to the same spot every time. He wasn't interested in me at all, too busy tearing apart the horseshoe crabs to worry about the crazy person that was laying on the ground and inching closer.
Out of more than one-hundred images, I only have a few that are not corrupted. At least I got a couple of them back :-)
Censored
Blue & Gold Macaw
Orlando, Florida
This is the first edit from my failed back-up drive which I picked up in Buffalo yesterday. Unfortunately Best Buy's Geek Squad obviously doesn't know their math...they originally stated that 15% of the files were corrupt and couldn't be opened. Turns out that more than 50% of the files are damaged beyond repair :-O

Huh?
This is probably my favorite image from the trip...these little guys crack me up. I wish I knew what they were thinking :)
Now it's time to get to work....flight centre here I come! Need to get my summer flights booked today!

The Sun Worshiper
Adult Female Burrowing Owl
Cape Coral, Florida
Females are usually darker than males because they spend more time in the burrows and their feathers don't get sun-bleached.
Finally got word today that the majority of files on my failed drive have been recovered and I should have them in my hands within the next week or so. Can't wait to get them back although I have no idea when I'm going to find time to deal with all the editing!
Also picked up my 1D4 which failed the week before my recent trip when I went to use it to shoot a wedding. Luckily I always have at least two bodies on every shoot! The groom looked like "The Hulk" in the few photos I took....green and grainy. Not a good look for anyone ;)
Canon gave me a loaner for the Cape Coral trip and put a rush on the repair which they fixed in record time. So now it's got a new sensor and hopefully that's the end of my equipment failures for a while!!!

Seeing The World Through New Eyes
Burrowing Owlet
Cape Coral, Florida
The oldest owlet at one of my favorite burrows. This year there are four babies, a single adult and a mated pair in these burrows. Some years there have been as many as seven owlets in this location.

The Crossing Guard
I just got back from another trip to Florida this time to focus on the owlets because they hadn't emerged from their burrows when I was there in March/April. They usually come out for the first time when they are two weeks old and I spent all my time on this trip sitting and watching my favorite burrows.
