Tongue Twister

Atlantic Puffin in Newfoundland, Canada.
The puffin’s tongue is special. It uses its raspy tongue to push fish against spines on the palate while they continue fishing. Each time another fish is caught; the tongue pushes again and holds it up with the others.

Fear

This is the same bear as my previous post but in this one her expression has changed. No....it's not aggression you see. She is fearful and upset because another more dominant female is in the area.

Windows To The Soul

I had a couple of fun weeks with the bears and the dynamics this year are very different than expected. It's difficult to absolutely identify certain bears when the last time I saw them they were young...but I believe this is one of Gene's cubs that was born in January 2014. Her behavior certainly matches and even though I can't be positive it's her....it was obvious she recognized us. I've gone through all my notes on the bears and there have only been two female cubs born to the sows in years and it looks like we have both of those visiting this summer! There is also another sow and coy around but so far I've only managed to get one brief look and couldn't identify her. She may be new.
