Large old bulls that have been kicked out of the herd are called Dagga Boys and they are extremely bad-tempered.
"Dagga" means mud in Zulu.

Burrowing Owls 2013
Burrowing Owls 2013 a video by Megan Lorenz on Flickr.
My heart is not in it right now...but I've got to get myself back into processing files and getting things done so I thought I'd start with something that made me happy and made me laugh before.
While I was in Florida, my friend Bill came up to Cape Coral to spend a day shooting with me. When the light became a bit harsh for photography, Bill setup his GoPro at one of our favorite burrows and he was kind enough to provide me with a copy to share.

Loss
January 23, 1943 - May 3, 2013
In memory of one of the most wonderful men I've ever known...there will always be an empty place in my life that cannot be filled again. You will have a piece of my heart forever. Gary was my friend and photography mentor and I will always cherish the memories I have of our conversations and the precious time I got to spend with him. I saw him a few days before he died and I'm so thankful that I got to spend that time with him.
I've been sitting here this afternoon trying to find a way to put in words how much I loved Gary and how much I'm going to miss having him in my life but the words fail me.... This is a painful and devastating loss. My love and thoughts go out to his family.

Enjoying A Moment Alone
I couldn't have timed my trip to Cape Coral any better, there were lots of babies which had been out of the burrows for weeks and were already trying to fly and also many burrows that babies were just emerging for the first time and still without all their feathers and downy fluff. This little guy was one of my favorite Burrowing Owlets from this trip....I spent hours every day watching him and couldn't help laughing at his antics. Some people wouldn't believe you can identify individual owls but each seems to look different and have their own personality. Out of the 5 owlets at this burrow, he just stood out :-)
Wake me up later...I'm going back to sleep zzz
Tired Burrowing Owl
Cape Coral, Florida
This sums up how I'm feeling today...really wanted to stay in bed and get caught up on my sleep before Vegas but woke up at 5 am. Guess I got used to the early mornings in Florida.
