It's My Day Off!
I think this is the first merged image I've ever done with wildlife...I hate cropping so this was the best way to get the photo I wanted. Hope everyone isn't tired of fox photos, still got thousands I could edit!! ;-)

Adapt
My favorite adult female Burrowing Owl in Florida. You may remember a few of my "Bad Hair Day" Photos of an owl that I shot in 2013...this is the same female. Unfortunately when I went to see her this time, I noticed her left eye was injured and it was constantly closed. I hoped for the best but later in my trip she opened that eye and it was obvious that it was permanently damaged. Most likely it's an injury from feeding her new owlets, they can be brutal with their tiny beaks. It was hard to watch her with that injury but she displayed an amazing ability to adapt. She still protects her owlets and I even watched her hunt for her babies - although she seems to be letting the male do most of the actual hunting now. See More

Take Off
I couldn't count the number of hours I've spent over the years with the Burrowing Owls and yet I never get tired of watching the owlets grow and learn to fly and watching the parents show remarkable skills at providing for their young and protecting them from all of life's threats.

Exhausted
I'm back and I feel like this little guy...exhausted!!! No rest for me though, I have a crazy amount of work to get caught up on. Florida was amazing. Great weather, quality time with good friends and family, lots of owls to shoot and a very special day at Myakka remembering my friend and mentor Gary.
